Masterton’s Education Strategy

Masterton City council’s Te Hiringa i te Mahara Education Strategy was published earlier this year.

Last year they consulted with stakeholder to identify those aspects of education considered most significant for the future development of the Masterton District and its people – all its people.

The core themes identified were as follows:

In April 2018 the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training in British Columbia, Canada, published their Adult Education Policy Framework.

The Framework includes key policies designed to enhance student access, success and transition from low literacy and high school completion to post-secondary education and employment training.

It is guided by the following policy objectives:

Strategy for Languages in Education in Aotearoa New Zealand

2019 – 2033
A report by the Auckland Languages Strategy Working Group was published in August 2018.

The strategy sets out a 15 year plan to support the learning of languages so that we can do what is needed to help create a multilingual Aotearoa New Zealand.

The vision is that by 2020 all Year 1 students are learning te reo Māori in schools and by 2033 all high school graduates will be able to converse in more than one language.

UK union response to new ACE policy

In a policy briefing made in January 2016 the University and College Union in the UK noted that “A 2012 report using HM Treasury Green book methodology estimated that [the benefits of ACE] were worth up to £1,160 to an adult engaged in part time learning. A recent research paper from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills also showed that learning below level 2 returned £10 to the economy for every £1 of government investment.
